Visual Studio 2022 17.8 Preview 1 was released last week (8th August 2023) and a really cool new feature it has is a summary diff view.
This new view allows devs to see only the changes in the file with a few lines of context, making reviewing changes in a commit or the comparison between two files much more efficient.
The images below show different views of a file I’ve made two changes in. Click on the images for a larger view in a new window.
In our non summary view I have to scroll past a lot of non changed code to see the 2nd change and the only reason I can see the first change without scrolling is because it’s close to the top of the file …
… but in summary diff view I get to see both changes immediately as most of the code that hasn’t changed is removed from view.
