.NET nostalgia – Wrox .NET books from the 2000s and 2010s

Who remembers the big red Wrox books which were popular in the mid 2000s and early 2010s? Wrox used to have some amazing .NET books. I think I probably owned them all.

.NET 2.0 Wrox Box

What about this epic .NET 2.0 book set from Wrox back in the day? Did you own it? Four books, 3600+ pages and a 180 day Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition trial ❤❤❤ …

Generics had just been released with .NET 2.0 and so of course merited its own book.

… And yes that is Scott Hanselman (@shanselman) / Twitter 2nd from left in the back row. This guy has been around for years and is an amazing technical leader.

Professional ASP.NET Design Patterns

What about this one? ‘Professional ASP.NET Design Patterns’ by Scott Millet was another brilliant title I owned.

Of course the first thing I did after reading about all the patterns is try and apply them literally everywhere in my code even if they weren’t needed 🤦‍♂️ … I think this is pretty much a right of passage for most developers though.

Looking at these books makes me feel nostalgic. Nowadays I don’t buy physical books anymore, there’s just no need, but it certainly used to be a lot of fun picking up new titles back in the day.

Did you have any Wrox books back in the day? Are all your technical books still in the garage? 🤣 …
